Here are the European mounts that I did this year. One was mine and the rest were different family members. Next year I am going to try to do more and make a little money at it. This is my buck that I killed in bow season. This buck was killed several years ago. I had to soak it in water for a few days and do a lot of cleaning on it. I think it turned out great compared to how it looked when I got it. This one was cooked and cleaned by someone else. I just whitened it. They didn't clean out the nasal cavity very well and it caused some discoloration on the nose.

If you don't mind can you talk about your process a bit?
I skinned and boiled mine back in November. I've had too many things going on to get back to it and finish the process.
How do you do the whitening? Do you use lacquer thinner to remove the oil / fat in the bone first?
Any other tips you have?

If you don't mind can you talk about your process a bit? I skinned and boiled mine back in November. I've had too many things going on to get back to it and finish the process. How do you do the whitening? Do you use lacquer thinner to remove the oil / fat in the bone first? Any other tips you have? First of all, there are about 30 different ways to do a Euro mount. There are some very knowledgeable people on this site that helped me out on my first one last year. After you boiled it, did you pick it clean? The cleaner you get it the whiter it will get. Make sure to get all of the junk out of the nose area. To get the grease out of mine, I boil some water with dawn dish soap and soak the skull in it. I don't boil the water with the skull in it, I pour it in a bucket and lower it into the water. To get it white, you need to get some peroxide. You can get 30% peroxide at a beauty supply store, like Sally's. Soak it in that but make sure to keep the antler bases out of the liquid. I mix baby powder with the peroxide to make a jelly and paint on any bone that is not submerged.
