Ive seen it many times in Florida where I hog hunt. When tracking a hog blood trail in the palmettos and you get caught up in kudzu vines you litterly need a machete to get threw the stuff. The vine has small XXXXXly needles that make it hard to hold on with out gloves on. Very tough stuff. h.h.

There is a huge patch between Seymour and North Vernon on Highway 50. It is along the railroad tracks makes me think seeds came off of RR cars.

HH-I believe what you are describing is probably more in the gooseberry family. To my knowledge kudzu does not have spines or thorns. If it is gooseberry that you are refering to then more than likely the hogs will also be digging up it's roots/tubers for food. Have seen the gooseberry root/tuber being rooted up many times in SC.

Locals called it Kudzu. h.h.

I have it on one of the places I hunt. It has been there for 25years or better and has killed all the trees in about a 2-3 acre area. I notified the ASC office and they are going to spray it this summer.

There is a huge patch between Seymour and North Vernon on Highway 50. It is along the railroad tracks makes me think seeds came off of RR cars. When I lived in Evansville, there was a huge patch of Kudzu growing on the Westside of Evansville. Story is that the owner planted it years ago for livestock & it covered several acres of land.

I am old enough to remember when the IDNR advertised Multiflora Rose as the Living fence, back in the '50's. My Granddad planted some around his property.

Kudzu & Multi-Flora are very bad news for the timber, but the deer love em.
