During the early archery season while still hunting I came upon a single feeding deer without antlers. The deer was small and appeared to be alone. My experience from past hunts is that these usually turn out to be button bucks.
If I had taken this deer thinking it was a doe and found it to be a buck would I have been in violation of the regs??

A "button buck" is considered an antlerless deer. As long as you have a license that allows you to take an antlerless deer, then you would not be in violation.
As far as a deer license goes......Indiana does not have a license for a buck or a doe. It is for an antlered deer, or an antlerless deer. An antlered deer is any deer that has at least one 3 inch antler.
