This is nothing fancy, but its my first full build (lower and upper) and its extremely satisfying! ;D I am going to send some rounds downrange this weekend. I need to install the front sling mount, but thats no big deal right now. Winter is my favorite time of year for projects!

Thats a good question actually...I did it slowly over a year, so I will have to think about that one for awhile!

This one is .223 and I have started working on building a lower in .308 as well.

Just a standard trigger is installed for now. At some point, I would like to replace the front handguard with a free float quad rail to give me some additional flexibility.

Nice. just started my own Ar build. Just got the upper today, its a DPMS Hi-Rider upper w/.204 Ruger 24" fluted barrel. 1:12 twist. Went ahead and temporarily mounted the scope on it and there is very little clearance between the top of the rail and the bottom of the turret mount. Will most likey have to go with a little higher rings, there is only about 1/32" clearance. I figure if the rings are tightened down there will probably be contact.

Just an FYI, you'll need different scope mounts for that... You'll want the scope to be set forward so that the rearmost part of the scope is in front of the charging handle, so your face can be in the right spot for the eye relief... There are a metric crap-ton of people who make the offset bases/rings for the standard height Pic. rails on the AR platform, but I don' tknow who makes them for the super-high rails... My match rifle, shown below, is shootable, but just barely (could go forward about an inch), and when I'm slung up in prone, I've got my neck back at a funny angle to get the eye relief right... I'm getting the LaRue offset ring/mount as soon as my wife finds a job... stores.homestead.com/Laruetactical/Detail.bok?no=30Mike

Thanks for the heads up, I kinda wondered about that. Thats why I didnt lock-tite anything yet, waiting for the lower to get to me before I started mounting more securely.

Looks great! Even if you don't actually save any money by building vs. buying, you learn your rifle inside and out, as well as gain satisfaction in knowing you did it yourself.
