Hello everybody. My name is Larry Born. I am a SSG in the US Army and am currently serving in Iraq. I am forty and unfortunately didn't get started hunting until later in life (35) as I grew up in Indianapolis and nobody in my family has an outdoor bone in their body other than me.
I have been able to hunt 2 full season (deer) and a two day shot last year when we were home (Warsaw) for Thanksgiving due to the generosity of a gentlemen who let me hunt his farm. Started my son last at 11, bought him a Rossi trifecta (243,22,20ga) and thought he was going to come unglued. The 2 seasons I got to hunt were in NC and in WA. No shooters in season(WA had a buck only 3 pts per side rule-blacktails). Didn't really get a chance to scout either place. At home last year could have taken a few does, but since we were not going to be there long enough to get them processed I was holding out for a big boy and didn't get a shot.
Whew! Having said all that, harvest or no harvest spending time in the woods, especially with my son, is always worth it. We are currently stationed at Fort Carson, CO and it is gorgerous. Missed getting to hunt this year because of this deployment. That being said, I live in an area near the Air Force Academy and have Muleys in my yard on a daily basis. We also have a resident black bear family in the neighborhood. It is just beautiful. I will try to post some pic's. Glad to be here and hope to talk to ya'll later.
