As some of you may remember, back in the summer I posted some pics of a deer my boy and I nick named "Brows". Well, last night I had my encounter with him that I have been waiting on all season. LIke last year, I seen this deer just one time thru season. The summer and early fall of 2008 brought trail cam photos on a regular basis. Then once season came, I seen him just one time. One morning in early November I rattled him in, which is when the first pic was taken. He wasn't what I was looking for at the time, so he got a pass. Fast forward to March one day when Trophyhunter and myself went shed hunting and found his right side. It was a good find, as now I know he's still alive and couldn't wait to see what he would make this year. Again fast forward now to June when I started putting the trail cams out. Once again I started getting pics of him. This year the pics I was getting were of him using my Lucky Buck site. The end of July was the last I seen of him, which is where the second pic comes from. I couldn't wait for season to come in hopes of getting a look at him. But my season proved to be a loooong and hard one and not bringing one glimpse of Brows thru bow season or gun season. I had pretty much given up hope for him. Honestly, I had completely given up on him. Well Friday night I told my oldest boy that we were going to go hunt the Alfa-Rack plot from the shooting house to hopefully get him a shot at a decent buck. After sitting there for a while we had a 3, a 4, and a small 6 point come in to feed. They fed around for 20 minutes or so within 50 yds of us. The whole time I'm sitting there trying to talk the boy into shooting the 6 point. But, he wasn't having anything to do with that even though he was looking for something to top his 4 point that he killed last year. Well, the wind died off and the thermals starting working, unfortunatly taking our scent down the slight grade to them and they decided to get out of dodge. As I'm telling Tristan he should have took that 6 point, I look out in front of us and there stands Brows, like a ghost that just came thru a wall, at about 125 yds on pins and needles since those other 3 bucks just blew out of the plot. It was a now or never shot. The muzzy barked, and the Barnes Expander took his heart out. He took off and ran over the hill about 50 yds before expiring. It was a great hunt, took a great deer, and best of all I got to share it with Tristan. My year went from horrible to awesome in a matter of seconds.

Nice, was your son upset at all that he didn't get to shoot? I had a similar situation happen this year and my son was upset at that time.

Nice, was your son upset at all that he didn't get to shoot? I had a similar situation happen this year and my son was upset at that time. Honestly, I think he was just as excited as I was. He knew it was way too far for him to shoot anyway. He's all excited now that I'm done that he may get a crack at the other buck I was hunting which is quite a bit larger. He's itch'n to get after him.
