Friday morning started off by going to work till 12:00 noon. Started to the woods around 2:30 pm and proceeded to make the big walk back to the ground blind I have set up at the back end of the property I hunt on. The walk is about a quarter of a mile or so along the north edge via an old pipeline right of way. After turning the corner on my final approach to the stand I notice a couple of deer about 500 yards away in a hay field that was overseeded with red clover. I continued on to my stand stopping occasionally to glass the two deer in the field. I determined they were both small racked bucks and since they were on the neighbors property I went to my ground blind that does not have a view of the hay field. Proceeded to settle in my blind around 3:00 pm and ditched the cushin I had because it was wet and frozen. Waited patiently with nothing moving until 4:30 pm, when I saw a big doe come from my left about 20 yards away over a small rise, suprising me because of how close it was and I froze immediatey. Right behind the doe was a couple of smaller does, so far that is all I can see. I'm enjoying the show as they slowly move on and another smaller doe steps up and another big doe behind her. The big doe stops and pauses for seemed like hours and I caught a flash of something behind her but could not see another deer because of the terrain. The 5 deer move on, all of them still within 20 yards of my blind. When all of the sudden I see a tall rack coming up and taking the same path all the other deer came from. I had to wait and watch him and was finally able to grab my gun, which was still leaning against the blind. There is a ash tree I used to get the gun up as he went behind it and proceeded to walk toward the does going to my right. I took the shot at 15 yards as he was slowly following the other deer. When the smoke cleared every other deer scooted up the hill toward the west and Daddy moved the other way, stumbleld around, knocked his right antler off his head, then laid down about 40 yards away from my blind in full sight. It was a good day!

Tickman, Way to go. Your patience, determination and passing those younger bucks paid off. A beautful mature whitetail indeed. Congrats.
