Fellow office worker of my wife has a dog with a litter of pups-mixed golden ret/black lab. My question is-how old should a pup be to be weaned? These are six weeks old now and they said they would be ready by Christmas. If anyone else is interested let me know. They're mutts but still cute. Don't know if I'm ready for another dog yet or not. We had to put our family dog down due to an very aggressive spinal tumor a couple of years ago...I don't know who had who spoiled more

I brought my pups home this spring at 6 weeks. By that time they should be eating moist dog food and w/in a few days they'll be crunching away on dry food. Alot of the time the mother will start weaning the pups herself. Right at 5 weeks the mother of our pups would only let them nurse sparingly and at 6 weeks she almost cut them off completely.

If your not sure if you want one DON'T go look at 'em in person. If you do you'll probably be bringing one home!
When we were told that there were 2 males and 1 female in the litter of pups were looking at I told the 'ol lady I wanted a female. When we got there she seen a tan &white male (these are mnt. Feist) she wanted him. Needless to say I came home w/ two pups instead of one! We've had a blast w/ both of 'em!
I gettin to the point now days where I love watching a pup learn. An older dog that know's his job or place in the house is great, but training and learning a young dog is just awesome.
