Now that the 12 gage Rem 870's are in house, and I'm getting set to go out for squirrels soon, what is the best ammo for the task?
I am guessing something with smaller shot??? I don't see anything that mentions small game, just birds or waterfowl or clays or targets. I'm assuming that the shells used for clays would probably do well???

Best ammo is .17 M2. Does no more damage than a .22 even if shot in the body. For shotguns you should be shooting 4 to 6 shot. 4s for fox and 6s for grays. Larger shot will mean less pellets tearing up meat and heavier pellets will fully penetrate more often so you are not biting down on shot that you have missed picking out of the meat. You could just run middle of the road and load 5s.

#6's will kill any squirrel or rabbits you encounter all day long. Shells intended for clays are low brass and not as powerful as they should be for squirrels. Plus, the shot is too small. You need to look for 2 3/4", Game Loads with #6 shot. Good luck!

....I was going to say...2 3/4" game loads with #6 shot it is then. I've seen that all over the place from Wamart to Dick's, so it shouldn't be too hard to find.
Thanks to everyone!
