Good day!
I'm new here and would like to introduce myself. My name is Mike Myers, (one of 'em, not THE one though...) I have two kids D-17, S-16. We live in Fishers, IN (north side of Indianapolis) and we love being in the outdoors. We like to fish, but have not hunted or camped yet, but would like to get started.
I got hooked on shooting at a men's retreat a couple of years ago at Spring Hill Camps in Seymour, IN, and from that point on, I've toggled back and forth on getting started hunting.
I don't know that I'm ready to go after large game yet? I do however like the idea of myself and the kids getting started on small game, upland birds and waterfowl. I am totally out of my element on what I need, where to get it, how to find places to use it and the like...
I guess what I'm looking for is a hunting 'coach'. My dad got me onto fishing at the age of about 5, but he wasn't into hunting much. Therefore, I don't have much experience with what it takes and how to go about it.
If anyone can send me in the right direction, point me to someone that can or just has an idea, I'm all ears. My kids and I like going to the IGC and shooting rounds of clays there and would like to move onto something that we can bring home.
I'm up for any suggestions that anyone can send my way...

Welcome. I'm not much of a upland bird hunter and never did waterfowl but just wanted to say welcome.

Welcome aboard. I'll be happy to give you what advice I can. I hunt, fish, and run a guide service for upland hunts with my pointers here in central Indiana. IMO, upland birds (pheasant, quail, and chukar) are a great way to dive into our sport. Squirrel hunting will help you develop many of the skills needed for larger game like deer and turkey - especially patience. The most frequent question I get from people is, "How much does a bird hunt cost?" On average, you should plan to spend at least $100 per shooter for a good half day hunt. Feel free to PM me for more information.
