I have wanted to hunt pheasants my whole life and I am going to get my chance next month. I started a new job a few months ago and a guy I work with has 300 acres of prime bird habitat in Iowa to hunt on. We are going to take a weekend and go next month. How are the bird populations there?

Generally, the bird population was hurt a bit in Iowa due to the harsh '08-'09 winter. However the area affected most was sotheast Iowa (anything under a line drawn diagonally from the southwest corner to the northeast corner). However, my uncle and his 5 GWP's just got back from a combined South Dakota/Iowa trip and was quite pleased with the hunts in Iowa. The first hunt was a public hunt at Dunbar Slough about 1 hour NW of Des Moines. Numbers and hunting was great and then he hunted a friends private land near Germantown a few hours further north and that was even better. Not sure where you'll be located, but I'd say you're in for a good time!
