Five of us are going to Pope county, IL for Fri, Sat & Sun muzzy season. Calling for warm and rainy, but should be fun none the less. Always see some pigs down there. With any kind of luck, we'll bring a couple bruisers home.

Good luck Steiny. We expect a good trip report and pictures..
I just reread the Illinois regs and we can bow hunt (with orange on) during the muzzleloader season over there. We couldn't duing the regular fireram seasons. So we might head over with bow and crossbow in hand.

Well, we got blanked. Season was Fri, Sat & Sun and I'll bet we didn't have a combined three hours in all of those days that it wasn't raining. Conditions were crummy, to say the least.
We all toughed it out and hunted hard, got ourselves soaked and cold each day, saw tons of deer, saw a few dandy shooters, and one of our party missed a big un.
Despite the trip sounding like a bust, I think we'll re-book for next year. We had a good crew and a good time, and that area holds some real bruisers. Much better chance of killing one there, than in my back yard.

Get one next year. The back yard around here will still be the same, and Illinois will still be, well, Illinois.

Amen ! Killing a trophy whitetail is a pretty slim odds proposition, even under the best of circumstances, in the best areas.
