As the upland season is quickly coming on, I'm getting calls and scheduling hunts at 2 Indiana preserves. I talked with 2 guys today who want me to guide their hunts and they will be using lonbows. I will meet with them in a few weeks first to go over the basics since I have never guided archery/pheasant. Anybody out there who has some experience and can provide some insight i would love to hear from you. This sounds awesome to me - just have some thoughts and concerns.

As long as they're using Flu-Flu arrows(full size feathers for fletching)and judo points, or bird heads, you'll have the same safety concerns as you would for shotgun hunters. Now, if they use broadheads, Like Ben Pearson did, you'll have to watch so your dogs don't get cut retrieving a downed bird. We used to have a lot of fun hunting rabbits with recurves, pheasant would be a blast!

Cool. At this point I don't think I will allow any sort of broadhead as you mention. Don't really want to think of the damage they could cause.

I actually guided varmint101 on such a hunt using flu-flu's. He never actually stuck a bird but it was fun watching. Eventually we tired of pointing and letting them go so we loaded up the shotguns and had at 'em. Did this at Royal Flush about 3-4 years ago. Oh, we used chukars instead of pheasants so the targets were a bit smaller.

Good info Jack. This hunt will be at Royal Flush or Stotts Creek depending on timeframe and logistics.
