Hunting on one of Timex’s properties in Illinois.....I shot this buck yesterday evening, but I wasn’t 100 % sure of the shot. He acted like he was hit, but only went short ways and then stood there for about 5 or 10 minutes. The original shot was about 100 yards and after he ran a ways he was out about 150 yards – too far to try a second shot. He slowly moved off into the CRP field. I waited until dark and snuck out of the area. After Woodmaster helped Dean Stallion get his deer out that Dean had shot yesterday evening too they came up to help me look for my deer. We found a slight blood trail and a couple of bloody beds. We finally trailed him to his last bed and he was still in it. A finishing shot put him down for good. All three beds were within a 100 yards of the previous bed, so we knew we had a deer that was seriously hurt. Post mortem showed that my shot was in the shoulder but just a little too far forward. Since he was at a slight going away angle I only got one lung on him. Mature bucks can go a long way and live a long time on one lung. He is pretty good 10 pointer that had a good spread of close to 19 inches. We guessed him at 145 if he had not broken off his G2 on the right beam. Very fixable my taxidermist (Dean Stallion) told me. Age guess is 4 1/2. I’m pleased and I thank Woodmaster, Dean Stallion and the good Lord for helping me to get this deer. I NEVER pray to get a deer, but I do pray to recover a deer once I do shoot one.

Nice ! You are right, those big bucks can take one heck of a wound and still go quite a ways before expiring. I've been in on two of those deals this year, and we were lucky enough to get both those deer too.
