All,
We've already discussed the "Big doe and Little Doe" contest here is what I propose for some other "Entertainment and contests".
1) Big doe and Little Doe contest.
A prize for the biggest and littlest doe taken during the hunt.
I've got a $50 certificate from American Taxidermy for the biggest doe. The certificate does NOT have to be used to mount the doe. It can be used for a future animal/bird/fish that the youth takes.
I've got a custom made turkey pot call coming from Bill's Custom Turkey Calls in Grandview Indiana. We can use that as a prize for the "littlest doe".
Both are VERY nice prizes.
2) Nature Observance
I'm getting a form ("Bowhunter Survey") from The IDNR and we will give one of those each youth hunter. The youth hunters then count the number of different animals that they see while hunting. That might keep them just a little more in tune with their surrounding watching for all animals and not just deer.
Prizes to be determined..
3) Crossbow Target Shoot
During the off hours Saturday we will hold a Crossbow Target Shoot (after a bit of familiarization and practice) at a deer target with the closest shot to an X on the target will be the winner. We will have two classes - 1) Youths and 2) Mentors.
Prizes to be determined..
4) Tree Identification
Youths identify selected trees around the campsite. Most correct wins.
Prizes to be determined..
5) "Shoot" the big buck
Youths to atek pictures of any bucks spotted while hunting. The picture of the biggest buck wins.
Prize - Two day muzzleloader hunt
We welcome any suggestions for these activites or any other activities..
