Had the spot.. Went with a buddy of mine over to a dairy farm where I had noticed birds loafing during the day. My bud says "thats a bud of mine,, he wont care" Hot Dog,, its on!! We go over and stop the guy out in the hayfield they were raking,, and he says "I dont care".. The he tells us they are landing in the hay early,, then going to the water.. Even better.
They left 6 rows raked up and we snuck off with half a truck bud load. Took all that and then some to grass up 4 blinds and the dog blind. We spent about 1 1/2 hours yesterday,, along with some bud lights,, getting them ready.
Along comes this morning,, not really for sure,, but sure am ready. 2 truckloads head out, 1 with blinds and 1 with dekes. Got everything setup and in order. Man these blinds were grassed up nice laying 2 blinds in each row. Used up 30 big foots. Thought for sure it might happen....
First flock comes out and they are low already coming over the trees to our field,, they get out in front and start to circle,,, BAMMMM,, my stinkin azz hefer dog runs right out of her blind and breaks on the very first flock of the year.. What the freakin heck is she thinkin,, I was bout ready to whipp her butt from there to the truck!!!! Everybody ed and laughing at me. And here I am supposed to be the KNOW-ALL of this operation.
Next flock up came out wide and started to circle us,, before they could think about coming in,, here comes another and they didnt want anything to do with us,, then drug off the first flock.
Next,, same problems,, birds would not finish. Probably on the next group was when MY STINKIN AZZ HEFER DOG broke and busted us for the second time.
We finally got a group of 5 or so to come in high and circle just on the edge of range and we went for it with 1 bird falling. This was to be our only bird.
I thought we had it made,, but we had something wrong on our set-up,, cause we blew good chances at maybe 300 birds. Man its tough to hide in fresh cut hay.
Good news is,, it sure was better than going to work this morning!!!
