Let it be known that the turkey ticks have made it as far North as Spencer In Owen county. I killed 2 greys on Thursday evening about 2 miles West of Spencer and am the proud owner of over 100 (yes ONE HUNDRED) red welts where they became fast to me. I estimate that I removed just as many before they stuck their fangs into my carcass. I found them mainly on my shoulders and upper arms AFTER taking a shower following my hunt and squirrel cleaning. I mention their location because I did not know I had any on me until after taking a shower (who knows how many went down the drain!). This leads me to believe that the ticks were actually on the squirrels themselves as I found very few below my waist. Thought I would pass this along as I know several of us migrate to Owen county to hunt. Until this year I had noticed these ticks only as far North as the New Hope area. Again, they ARE around Spencer.

Guys and gals, Permanone or Duranon on your clothing should be number one prevention before going into the woods anywhere.

I hope turkeyscout will comment about his use of 91% isopropyl alcohol to thwart the little devils. Cheap and readily accessible sounds good to me. Jim, paging Jim......
