Been away for awhile and I'm a little confused on the rut activity in our area ( figured it would be over by now ? )

So I decided to put some time in today to see what rut sign was around ...
Chris H. and I did some scouting today ... Also took time to stalk a few Pheasants with our crossbows ...
Following tracks ...
Wing prints in the snow after the shot ...
Chris H. scored a 30 yard Cock Bird and a 20 yard Hen with his Exomax ... Good Shooting CH !
I got a 10 yard Hen with my Vortex ... It was a really strange shot , I had her pegged with my 10 yard cross hair , passed a 2216 thru her and she walked about 7 feet looking like I missed her , then she flopped over in the cover .... Scary fast pass thru !!
A real fresh scrape !
At 3:30 pm we saw a buck chasing does ... It was on a farm that ( rumor has it ) doesn't usually let hunters in because of problems the landowner has had in the past with guys tresspassing ... so I didn't go in to ask thinking it would be an automatic turn down .... We went for a late lunch and stopped back at 4:00 pm ( figured the worst he could do was say no ) ...
I talked to the landowner and he said he is pi$$ed with guys tresspassing ... the last group , when he asked them to leave , they told him to f#*@ off !
I assured him not all hunters were like that ... we talked for awhile and he softened up ... He ended up saying I could go in for tonight ... It was 4:30 pm by then and I figured it was too late to hike in and set up with my climber , so I told him I was just going to scout and take some pictures ....
Bad decision ! I should have taken the time to set up and call ... I walked back thru the bush and walked into a 10 point buck chasing a doe thru the bush at a slow trot ... I managed to get a blurry shot of him as they crossed the field ...
Then , I look to my left and see a nice 8 point watching the action ... I took one quick shot of him when a doe winded behind me and they all took off ....
I showed the pic's to the farmer when I came out .... we talked for awhile and he said he appreciated me asking permission and told me to stop by again sometime .... I think I got my foot in the door now !!
