Excellent Jim! Those Mossbergs do shoot, don't they?!?! By the lay of the land, I have to guess these were taken close to your home. If you get to hunting Owen county, please leave some for the rest of us!!!! Skychief.
By the way, reading your posts inspired me to knock the dust off my Winchester 9422. I am happy to report it is sighted and ready to hit the woods. Even better, I have arranged a hunt this afternoon/evening with a 9 year old boy that I have been helping with his marksmanship and gun handling. He will be toting my Winchester 67. I am not sure who is looking more forward to it!!!!!

Success, success!!! We had a great hunt in Owen Putnam State Forest this afternoon. The temperature was cool and just a slight breeze was in the air. We walked a logging trail and saw and heard nothing for the first hour as we showed up plenty early. The activity quickly picked up as we neared a little stand of hickory. The trees were only as large as a mans leg but boy did they ever reach for the skies. Tall isn't the word for it.
The little feller had the first crack, but missed. The squirrels acted as they should early in the season while being missed with 22 shorts.....they kept cutting! His second shot connected and we marked the spot where he fell and kept watching the treetops. Long story short, 3 more shots and he had his second bushytail. The smile on my face was as large than his. Finally, he insisted I take the next shot and I took #3. All young greys (2 boars and a sow).
We walked back the trail toward the truck with much daylight left and walked under a couple more feeding squirrels. To my delight, the youngster felt like me, that we should "leave some for seed". We had to cross a very small, clear creek on the way out. We (I) took advantage of the creek and dressed our squirrels right there. The coons willl be pleased.
We had a great time together, to say the least. Hopefully his fire stays lit, so to speak. One thing he said took me back many years ago. More than once he commented on how much he liked the smell after a shot had been fired. I can remember like yesterday, though it's been over 30 years ago, making the same comment to Dad as he helped me. I learned something from my young friend today. That is, never overlook the small things, like the smell of hoppes #9 coming off a warm 22 in the cool squirrel woods!
Skychief.

Ol turkey scout is flat tearing them up! I walked through the woods with my dog working on hand signal obedience. He did quite well but the squirrels never showed up. Plenty of sign but maybe too early in the day yet.
Keep it up!

Nice bunch of squirrels 'Scout! I went solo this pm and scratched 2 more greys into the pot. Pleasant evening and zero breeze. That made hearing them a lot easier. I noticed a lack of sign around shagbarks, but found them in the tightbarks.
