I guess like everyone else who has seen bowfishing on TV, it looks like a lot of fun but I figured it requires expensive specialized equipment. That is until my son said that an inlet to the IPL power plant on the White river was literaly loaded with big fish. We wanted to try bowfishing but weren't interested in big bucks for equipment to get started, so here's what we did...For $20 we bought a fishing arrow and for another $20 we bought a spool of 80 pound braided line. We already had an old Zebco fishing rod and reel so off we went. Matt shot the bow and I handled the rod and reel...you talk about fun! Those 25 pound Asian Carp are a blast to sink an arrow into and then fight to shore on the fishing gear. It's a two man operation and we switched off so we each had an opportunity to shoot and reel em in. So, if you want to give it a try, keep it cheap, it is fun! BOBinIN

I look forward to the opportunity to stick a really big one. The 25 pounders stripped line pretty good though. I have a crossbow that I just might try to make an arrow for to use with this two man approach. Good fishing, BOBinIN

unfortunatly crossbows may not be used. but you can find some reasonable prices on spools and arrows. for the money you spent you could have came close to getting two setups.(on the cheap) on theother hand your way does sound interesting. for the bigger fish wait on the river to start backing up into the ditches or into a field and search the edges for grass carp. WHAT A BLAST.

Please explain..."Unfortunately crossbows may not be used." Are they not legal for fishing? Thanks, BOBinIN

the regs on bowfishing say that they may not be used. i do knot know if that would apply for somebody with a crossbow permit or not. it does not go into very good detail, you may want to ask a CO.
