Boy, this is wierd. I was JUST reading the Official bulliten produced by the Indiana Department of conservation in 1955 detailing the First Deer seasons and considering Writing a post about it, and here is someone thinking the same thing.
The first modern deer season was held on November 1,2, and 3rd in 1951. Slugs and bow and arrow were he legal weapons. 633 deer were bagged. Bowhunters bagged 3 deer. Licenses cost 5 dollars.
I think I will post more of this stuff later, as this book has lots of good info.

Woody, you stole my thunder! That is some of the same info contained in the book I have from my Grandfather's library, "Indiana Pittman Robertson Wildlife Restoration, 1939-1955." I'm glad you posted it though; very interesting!

Started in 73'. Weren't many deer around here. Saw seven total deer the entire two week gun season. Killed my first (a button buck) in 77' with a 35# Ben Pearson recurve. Think I'm starting to enjoy this sport.
