Perhaps this isn't the place... but I had a question for other members.
Those of you who have an evening service at church, do you know how attendance has played out in recent weeks?
I ask because we're trying to make a new evening service work. Our first week we had 55+ in attendance, 2nd week was around 30. The 3rd week was an off-week because of Easter, and our 4th week had a whopping 4 (FOUR) people in attendance and that includes me & the wife. Talk about akward.
The other church we attend is a very popular and "trendy" place an hour away... if you don't show up early you don't get a seat. We were hoping to see this evening service continue at our little country church- but I guess folks have better things to do when the weather is nice??? Just wondering if others have noticed the same in rural churches with evening services???

We don't have any evening services but we have had a gathering on Wednesday nights. This included a meal and then we break of into small groups that each do different studies. Not really a service.
Attendance at these started out pretty good, but has really tapered of the last couple years. During summer it got way, way down. People just have so much more to do in the summer than the other times of the year. It is still light late and that gets them outdoors more. Kid's sports takes a lot of people away from church functions. Also it is the vacation time of the year.
So, my church suspends the evening get together during the summer months. It picks back up in the fall and runs through until next summer when we stop again.
Not sure if this helps or not, but that is what happens here. BTW - We regurally have 400+ attend on Sundays, but we could not get 25 to attend the Wednesday night function in the Summer.
Good luck...
