We are looking for volunteers for a Wetland Planting Project at the Dic Blythe property on May 16, 2009 with the Kankakee FWA. Come out and help plant thousands of native plant plugs to provide a great food source to the waterfowl thru out the year.
We will need all the help we can get.
Kids are more than welcome, in fact we would love to get as many out there as we can.
Water should not be any deeper than a few inches but muddy in most of the areas we will be planting in.

From the Kankakee FWA We are planning on starting at 9:00 eastern time, 8:00 Chicago time (AKA central time). We have approximately 8,000 plugs to plant on the 200-acre property. They really aren't that big, but needless to say it will take quite a while to get them all in the ground. The property is still pretty wet, so good waterproof boots will be needed in many spots. Don't let the water keep you from coming though; there will be teams of folks doing prep work in the parking lot too. We can find a position for everyone that is willing to help.
We are currently extremely short staffed at Kankakee; so all help will be greatly appreciated this year. This is just the first of many opportunities to lend a helping hand. We will be unveiling at least two new parcels to the public late this summer/early this fall once the restoration/dirt work is complete. I will be asking for some help from you on those down the road. Since I started at Kankakee I have heard countless times that our hunters wanted to help us out and volunteer, this is your time to do just that. Come for a few hours or stay all day, any help is good help.
If you could also send this to your hunting buddies or conservation group memberships, that would be great. We are wanting as much help as possible to get this project done so we can start on the next. If you have questions please don't hesitate to call me at 574-896-3522. If I'm not in, just leave a message and I'll back to you.
A few things you may want to bring: Bug spray, sunscreen, shovel, chair, waterproof boots, and gloves.
Directions to the site: From Rt. 30 and HWY 39 - Go east on Rt. 30 to County Road 50 east (approx 2.5 miles). Turn North on Co. Rd. 50 East. Go approx ¾ of a mile and the parking lot is on the left side of the road. We will plan to start at 8:00 Eastern Time.

It was fun but we needed a few more people to get the job done.
