I took my son out this morning for his first turkey hunt and we decided it was a success. We walked up on a bobcat killing breakfast about half way to where we were setting the blind, heard our first gobble as we were climbing in the blind, and called three jakes to within 5 feet of the blind. They were out the side window and 3 feet across a fence on the wrong property so he got his first lesson in "oh so close". It was a great morning, I'm proud of his restraint, and I loved the outward showing of nerves and shakes.

Sounds like a great hunt you had. I could not locate any gobblers for my son, so instead he wanted to go fishing, caught several bluegill and small bass. Glad you and your son had a good time.

We hunted hard with no success and had come home early to go to Canada for my wife's grandpas funeral today. Now I am trying to figure out it there is a weekend we can make a trip south again.

A buddy took a friend of his 12 year old. He said they had birds all over them. The youth ended up taking one with 2 beards and spurs over an inch. One beard was 10" and one was 10.5.

Glad to hear some other kids enjoyed the morning and that turkeys hit the ground. We missed going this morning, was working concessions at gokart races till around midnight last night. Will try this afternoon if the heavy rain holds off.

We didn't have much action in our area. Had only one bird gobble far off Sat. morning, chased him for four hours until a real hen came between us - game over. Spooked one bird walking back to camp that afternoon and no gobbling whatsoever on Sunday morning.

I took my daughter on her first ever hunt Saturday morning. We had 3 different birds responding to our calls. We probably had 15 hens come around and the biggest tom that I had ever seen (only been turkey hunting 3 years). He hung up at about 65 yards twice, once at about 0715 then came back at about 0900. The second time I was getting pressed for time as I had to be at work at 1100. He dropped over a hump on the other side of the field and out of the blind we went. I told her that we needed to get to almost the top of the hump to be close enough for her to shoot. So, we crawled to just where I had told her we needed to be, and he dropped out of strut and took off. Then I saw another head running by. The hen that he must have been following up that fence row busted us, just as I was getting ready to hand her the gun back. We counted our hunt as a success. I told her that us calling a bird in and getting to watch the way he reacted to any noise I made made the day a success. Killing a bird is icing on the cake. She was so excited to have been that close to a turkey outside the blind. She can't wait to go this Saturday.

A good friend of mine sent me this "first".
This is the 7 year old that killed that big doe last youth deer weekend with a crossbow.

Yes it is. Looked exciting.. It was a great hunt. We had a tom gobbling at 5:40am and he never stopped until he flew down at 6:40am. He landed in the field 100 yards in front of us... and rattled off another 60-80 gobbles on film before scurrying out of view when these jakes showed up. You can hear him gobbling in the background of the video clip. After the miss, me and my brother had to hussle to work. Sunday she managed to miss a nice tom from the same location. Here is a good closeup of that tom, approximately 3 yards. I hope me and the bro can get good birds this close on Wednesday.... I don't want to stretch the Guillotine beyond 15 yards unless I have too!!!!
