I got a card in the mail saying I was not drawn for the State Turkey Hunt at Big Oaks NWR, but was drawn for a two day Big Oaks NWR Local Hunt on May 9-10. It says to participate, I have to be there at 4:30pm on the 8th to select hunt units and that I must hunt with a partner and view the safety briefing.
My question is... Does this hunt allow me a bonus turkey? In other words, if I get one at my normal place on opening weekend, can I still take one at Big Oaks too?

no, I got drawn last year and didn't go because I already had my turkey. Unlike deer the turkey population hasn't hit the number to give away extras.

No it doesn't as elmo said...Also take the partner and you have to set through a safety training too. This place is very big and very easy to get turned around in...trust me and I didn't have to learn this the hard way you pay for the search and rescue fess too... (My brother in law and I get turned around...found our way back but the place is huge).

Also, make sure that you each have a compass. Look at it when you walk in and when you get ready to walk out to keep from getting lost. I know that area 39 has some turkeys, because I spooked them 2 years ago and watched them walk by me while deer hunting this last season.
