Text for the Day -- Mark 11:15-17 ---------- Then they came to Jerusalem. And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling and those who were buying in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money changers and the seats of those who sold doves; and he would not allow anyone to carry anything through the temple. He was teaching and saying, "Is it not written, 'My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations'? But you have made it a den of robbers."
Devotional ---------- There is always a temptation present to turn religion into a financial gain endeavor rather than a vehicle for nurturing faith and life. The court of the Gentiles in the Temple, a place for non-Jews to pray, had been turned into a business of buying and selling sacrifices. Essentially this act was saying that prayer is not that important, nor is hospitality to the outsider or stranger important.
Prayer ------------- Help us, Lord, to keep our churches places of prayer. Amen
