We have been looking for a new car for a while to replace our 1998 Van. We found a 2005 Extended Trailblazer over in IL with only 30k in miles on it for a better price than anything we could find over here. So I drove two hours over there and everything appeared fine. It was fine until I got off the interstate just a few miles from my house and it started idleing rough and shaking a little. I took it to auto zone and they said the code was something about the cam and crank shaft not being in sink.
So I called the dealer and I wanted to bring it back an undo the deal. At this point they are not willing to do that. They are going to drive over here and get it and leave us a car. They want the chance to fix it. I am nervous that if they fix it may just be the beginning of a bigger problem

Yikes! I had that happen (light) on the truck I have now, but it was just an EGR valve which was an easy fix. Good luck is about all I've got. I think I'd just not let them fix it and undo the deal if you can.

I think you have 3 Business day's to get out of any purchase like this. If you feel really strong about this, I would get your money back. Make sure you put it in writing that you want out of the deal.

Lemon laws and three day periods don't normally apply to used cars since they're almost always sold "as is", but if you can get out of it run with that like a scalded dog. Don't take the car they offered, it's probably in worse shape than the truck.

My Granddad always said to buy a new car as if you buy a used one, you are only buying someone else's problem car.

NEW isnt an option for everybody. And ya lose money the second you drive that new car off the lot. Call that company up and tell what for! Surely they dont want ya telling about your experiance with them all over the net

Surely, you know a good mechanic, that could take a quick look and give you a second opinion. If he verifyied what Auto Zone said, then I would get concerned. Do it promptly though. Then try to undo the deal!

Then try to undo the deal! I think they are handling this pretty good. They are driving two hours this morning to pick the car up and bring us a loaner. When my wife asked him about most people telling us this could be pretty serious they mentioned that we might be able to undo the deal.

Probably not a real big deal. Usually when the check engine light comes on it's something minor, emmissions related, or some pollution control B.S.
Heck, even if you have to spend a couple hundred bucks to fix something, you are way ahead of a guy buying a new one. I am a firm believer in buying used cars. I usually buy stuff with 50K or less miles, at about 1/2 to 2/3 the price of a new one, and have never had a bad experience. Most cars anymore are good for about 200K miles, so your 30K is just getting broken in.
Hope it works out favorably for you.

It wouldn't be under the original warranty. 05 chevy was 3yrs or 36k. They didn't start 5yr 100k until '07.
Good luck with it! Hopefully it all turns out for ya.

They said it was just the sensor and they are ready to bring it back. I sure hope they are right!

Well last time my Van light came on it turned out to be that the gas cap seal was worn and that caused the light to come on. Sometimes those light can be a real pain.
