Text for the Day -- Psalm 77:1-3 ---------- I cry aloud to God, aloud to God, that he may hear me. In the day of my trouble I seek the LORD; in the night my hand is stretched out without wearying; my soul refuses to be comforted. I think of God, and I moan; I meditate, and my spirit faints.
Devotional ---------- The personal lament of the psalmist is an expression of an honest struggle. It is as if God is far away - the psalmist has to speak out loud to God. God's presence seems to be absent - thinking and meditating upon God do not bring comfort or confidence. It is good to be honest when we are flat out experiencing the absence of God. But do not stop praying on that account. God will not seem gone forever.
Prayer -------------- Give me strength and courage to keep on when my spiritual life seems flat, gracious Lord. Amen
