My list of "Pros" and Cons" of both.
What are your "Pros" and "Cons"??
MORNINGS…
Some Pros –
The beautiful sunrises The woods waking up sounds Very few people out Breakfast with buddies Fresh donuts at the gas station If you shoot one you can track in daylight It’s cooler Less bugs
Some Cons –
You have to get up early Finding you way to the stand in the dark You have to get up early The later it gets on the stand the less likely to see a deer You have to get up early
EVENINGS…
Some Pros -
The beautiful sunsets The later it gets the more likely you’ll see a deer You don’t have to get up early
Some Cons –
If you shoot one you might have to track in the dark It’s warmer More bugs

I enjoy hunting both prime times equally, but I prefer mornings as I would much rather follow a blood trail in the light of day than in the dark.

Once a few years ago I went back and looked at the number of bucks I've killed and I don't remember the exact number, I have killed far more bucks in the afternoon. I also can stay on stand easier in the afternoon than I can in the morning. Time goes better for me or something, but I have a much more difficult time sitting until say 10:00 a.m. than I do sitting from 2:00p.m. until dark.

Do you think it is in anticipation that as the evening progresses the more likely to see some "action"??

I would say so and the same for morning hunts the later it gets the less likely something is going to come by.

I too have seen and killed most of my bucks in the evening (4pm on) and find it much easier to sit from 2 till dark than predawn till ten. Also the places I hunt are small woodlots for the most part and its harder to get into in the a.m. without spooking deer.

Despite the fact that I have to get up at 4:30 every morning for work , or maybe because of it ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) , I prefer to hunt afternoons . I also see more deer then .

I see most of my deer during afternoon hunts also, but that is mostly because it is hard to where I do without spooking deer in the mornings. I start to see more deer in the mornings during the last week of early archery and throughout firearms season.

I love the fresh crisp early morning air, the sounds of the world coming to life, the feeling of the warming sun on my face and the fact I've shot most of my deer in the morning.

I've always enjoyed hunting in the mornings, being in my treestand before dawn. I have also hunted in late afternoon, but have passed up shots at deer as I was afraid they might run off after being shot.

I really love the morning hunts. My whole life I have been a pretty chipper morning person so that helps. Too much noise in the evenings, I don't have the best vision so that magic time when it comes to a fine line of too dark or just enough light is off limits and so is blood trail at night. I have killed all my deer but one in the morning.

i love the morning hunts best, but where i hunt (owen county) one week the mornings seem to be best, next week they move better in the evening ,then back to mornings, then later on in the season mid -day is ok. so i just hunt all the time.....good luck turkey scout p.s. on morning hunts if i look at my watch,i"m climbing down in five minutes. i hate that watch!

Myself I perfer morning hunts over evening hunts even though I hunt both when I can. Most of all my deer have been taken in the morning to midday. But I do not get up very early and I do not try to get out there before daylight either. So most of the time I do not get to where I want to hunt until after 7:00 am and usually hunt til noon or later.
