Text for the Day -- Job 4:17-21 ---------- Can mortals be righteous before God? Can human beings be pure before their Maker? Even in his servants he puts no trust, and his angels he charges with error; how much more those who live in houses of clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed like a moth. Between morning and evening they are destroyed; they perish forever without any regarding it. Their tent-cord is plucked up within them, and they die devoid of wisdom.'
Devotional ---------- Job's friends are convinced that Job has sinned greatly. They blame him because God has taken everything from him. They question whether anyone can be innocent before God if they suffer disaster. We have to be careful that we not try to solve the question, "why do the righteous suffer?" with a simple answer that they must have sinned a great sin. Suffering happens to the righteous and the unrighteous.
Prayer ----------- Help me to remember not to blame those in difficulty, but rather support them and strengthen them, O Lord. Amen
