This is not for me but for a guy coming all the way down from Nova Scotia to hunt.
Here is the details the Indiana State trappers Assoc. traded a turkey hunt for a bear hunt to the Nova Scotia trappers assoc.
Well the last guy who won wanted to fish so we did a good job taking care of this for him.
\Now this new winner is wanting a turkey hunt, the correct administration doesn't have much if any knowledge of turkey hunting and is in a pickle My vacation schedule won't allow me to be off to take this guy out.
The ISTA is responsible for the cost ( fuel, lodging and meals) but they haven't set a side any money to pay for the actual guide.
I'm wondering is any of you fellow outdoors man would be interested in helping the Indiana State trappers assoc. take this guy on a quality turkey hunt . This very well may be the only time this guy ever gets to turkey hunt in his life. there are no turkeys in Nova Scotia
I'm not a current officer but I am a current member and I want to help do what is right by this guy and both associations.
you can PM or email me lonphil1@hotmail.com
Thanks Lonnie

You traded something you can't provide, and want help donated? No turkeys in N.S.? Last time I looked there were no bears in IN. Doesn't mean I'll never hunt them.
Seems to me you have to apologize and tell the Nova Scotia Folks you don't have a guide lined up, nor money to pay for one. Maybe they'd be willing to accept being taken out by an ISTA member, and not a pro. turkey guide. That's their decision.
I can't speak for any professional guides out there, but asking for donated help during a busy season is a tall order. But you never know, there are people out there that will surprise you. You might have better luck finding one if you offer some form of compensation.

oldhoyt , if you don't want to help thats fine. I have already gotten several replies and we are working on the details. I have already explained what went on and I really don't want or need you brow beating me over this.
The hunt was never traded as a "professional guided hunt" it was just what I'm looking for. A normal out of the house hunter like you or me taking a guy from another country out for a opportunity or chance at a Indiana turkey.
Like I said if you want be like that than so be it .
I'm just trying to help the association out and make good on there deal , guess I could take the same route as you and say screw it you shouldn't have traded the hunt. guess that would make everything right. geeez man

Well, if you already have explained the situation to the guy from N.S., you have already done what I suggested. As for brow-beating you, I did not intend any negative tone toward you personally, as you did make it clear that you had no involvment in this trade. Still it is strange to include a turkey hunt as an option if as you say, noone has the ability to follow through.
Maybe I took your post wrong, but "quality turkey hunt" and "they haven't set aside money for the guide" sure sounded like more than you wanting an average Joe to take someone else out hunting. So I inferred that you were wanting a guide or maybe a "semi-pro" to volunteer.
I suggested another ISTA member may be able to volunteer, and I likened it to whether I would want to travel to N.S. to hunt bears with the average "Jacques" or whatever you'd call it up there. I don't know, guess I'd have to talk to the guy to hear firsthand what his hunting style is and what luck they generally have. If I travelled that far to hunt, I'd hunt no matter what the conditions. Would the host feel the same?
But, like I said, once the cards are on the table, it's up to the folks invovled. I'm glad that someone has offered to help. I hope it works out and both hunts live up to the hunter's expectations, whether game is killed or not. Truthfully, if the circumstances were as you say, and I had access to sufficient property with birds, and time to hunt, I would consider taking someone out for a first time hunt. I'm not sure my skill/knowledge level would amount to a quality hunt though.

Lonnie: Let me know if you still need a guide. I've got several top notch spots here around home and love calling in birds for others.
