Looking for suggestions on where to take my Son for the youth hunt this year. He is 10 and has only hunted one day for turkies. I don't normally hunt public land but might consider for the youth hunt.

If you can still sign up, put in for Big Oaks or call them and ask about it.

You can check out Sugar Ridge also. I think they put on a pretty good hunt up there.

Why wouldn't you take him where you do normally hunt?
A lot of turkey hunting is the intimate knowledge of the land you're hunting, so you can identify where they roost, where they feed and nest, and whether there are obstacles that will hang up an approaching Tom. That's at least as important as calling.
If possible, I'd hunt land you've been on. If you must hunt a new area, try to scout it a couple times at least.

Why wouldn't you take him where you do normally hunt? The place I normally hunt is in the southern part of the state and way too hard of access for a 9 year old. Plus I normally end up carrying most of the stuff besides the gun! Also, I have only killed 3 birds there in 13 years so I am looking for some better odds for him.
