I had two days worth of geese to get to the check station so I snapped a few pics while there today. I had a great talk with the 3 IDNR persons there working the station. I brought up the Adam Phelps quote in the Johnson Co. paper about this being the last Feb season and all persons there thought that undoubtedly it was a misquote or the reporter took a comment out of context. Perhaps Phelps meant that this will be the last season we have to check the geese in if our numbers show we aren't killing true migrators.... either way they all felt that unless some freak oddity skews the numbers, that we are on our way to a permanant Feb. season. We'll wait anxiously to see what the data shows and hope we are helping control those resident geese and leaving the Canada-loving birds alone. Great folks at IDNR doing a Dirty Job......

I do believe they were all resident giants Duff..... some they weren't able to determine the sex due to them being somewhat frozen, but all but one of the nine were mature birds.

Checked in three yesterday at Atterbury. Ray sais two "interior" females and one male. No migrators. Haven't seen him in years since I did my last crp project. Neat experience, feel like I did my part.

Does anyone know if the Feb season is ok'd by the feds will this go statewide or stay in the same counties? I know they did this same sort of trial period years ago to get the September Season. Just curious as it would be awesome to be able to shoot them down here in the Ohio River Zone as well. Thanks

Aaron, no clue. You might try asking Adam Phelps to see what he thinks. He's Indiana's waterfowl biologist and would be the one closest to the answer. But the decision won't be his to make. The feds still have the power on this decision.

Neat experience, feel like I did my part. I guess I aways thought "interior" birds represented migrators and were the hutchi or richardson geese with the giants being the resident birds??? Did the DNR rep say it was an interior bird that was not a resident? Not that it matters but I am just wondering. Thanks, Duff
