So what is the law on trespassing dogs? Not just coon hounds, but any dog that is trespassing on private property? Can the landowner shoot the dogs in this case without having to worry about fines, tickets, jail time, etc? Obviously if the dog is causing damage to property or livestock, or acting in a threatening manner I would assume it's OK.
I ask because there are numerous dogs running loose in our area. Some of them I don't really have a problem with- one of our nieghbors has a beagle that I don't mind. Other's I do worry about the safety of my kids- another nieghbor has a chow, there's others in the area along with a Rott or two....
Shooting a dog is the last thing I want to do, but if the owners let the dog run free and refuse to do anything about it, what else can be done?

As a landowner, you have the right to defend yourself, your family and your property from aggressive feral dogs. Wantonly shooting a dog just because it is on your property is illegal. Allowing dogs to run free is against the law. If you have problems with a dog, call your local Sheriff's Dept or City PD (if you live in town) and report the incident.
