Well I'm almost done planning our waterfowl trip to North Dakota for '09, just wondering when is the best time to go? For all species. I have been told that the season opener is a good time, that there is a big slowdown in the middle of Oct., and that late Oct. early Nov. is good. So do I just flip a coin or can anyone share some advise? Thanks Mike

You might try THE REFUGE GANG, then go to flyway forums, click on NORTH DAKOTA. They have a post for out of state hunters that has good info.

I would say that the early Nov. time should be a good time, usually don't start migrating through there till Nov. All depends on what you want to shoot also? Snows, cacklers, teal, these will be the first to come through in Oct. Usually the bulk of the mallards and big honkers won't be till Nov. mid to late. So early Nov. is a good time for a mixed bag. Good luck!!

miken, I have been to North Dakota at every conceivable time from the first week of the non-resident season till the time it freezes up. First and foremost what part of the state are you going to and what kind of birds are you wanting to shoot? Do you plan on hunting upland birds? Shoot me a P.M. and we'll talk. Kevin
