iv'e been out after yotes a couple time with no kills. archery season is still in here so i stay away from areas i know might be hunted. my buddy has been seeing anywhere from 3-6 in one area.he missed a couple last week but they are still traveling through the same area. i'm off work this week so i went to sit by a lone tree out in the middle of some large fields.the yote always pass near this tree.the closest woods is 300 yds away. i sat sunday with no luck stayed home monday andtuesday had a pack respond to my lone howl right at daybreak right on the woodsline.wind was right so i clammed up and waited for it to get light .never heard or seen a thing after waiting an hour. went this morning same place and the winds were terrible ! i bundled up good and sat it out.
didn't call at all since it was a given that something would pass through. sue enough at 8 am i saw a flash of red on the edge of the woods ahhh....3 customers !!! kept my cool and waited to see what they had planned.wind was from them to me and they headed straight for the tree i was backed up against they close the 350 yards to maybe 50 yds and i stopped them with a bark, dropped the middle one in his tracks ! the other two shagged ass but i was able to stop one with my yipping. i would love to say i dropped him to giving me my first double...BUT I MISSED...TWICE !
i held too high and needn't have. i'm using a remington model #788 bolt action
in .243 80 gr.soft point its sighted 3 inches high at 100 yds. he was a little farther than that but i still shot over him. oh well
