Had a great hunt this morning.... not because we got our limit of geese, but because the conditions lined up so that my son could go with me. It was the first time he's went along in 2 seasons and he was so excited! We were going to try and get out on Christmas Eve morning, but the pouring rain kept us in.....but today's hunt more than made up for it.
We had a great spot picked out so that we could drive out and he wouldn't have to walk much. I got him all settled into the blind and we didn't have to wait more than an hour before we had 4 dead geese on the ground. Dan and myself were sitting up in our blinds, and Kyle was laying in his with the doors closed when a flock of 15 appeared directly overhead without a single honk. We thought for sure we were busted, but the flock passed by and we shrank into our blinds as they did a 180 back into our spread. We didn't even touch a call or the flag as the group locked onto our set-up and did the long death-glide. 4 shots later we had 4 geese on the ground...with only one follow-up shot to finish off one of the fiesty ones that wasn't ready to give up quite yet.
Total time elapsed was less than an hour.... Out of the field before any other flocks came by to get educated. Pretty cool hunt! Kyle was loving it!!! So happy he could make it out this morning.
