Well I ranted about Dick's Credit (GE Services) eliminating the grace period, I was waiting for them to give me my rewards certf., I have $150.00 coming. Well guess what? They issued a Gift Certf. for $10.00 and forwarded the remaing points to next month. I assume this because my Rewards Acct. shows a positive balance worth about $150.00.
And to top it off they reduced my credit limit (nevermind I paid off my balance every month in full). Talk about whizing good customers off. They have zero marketing skills. In hard times you want to keep your good customers. They get 3 - 5% on every purchase I made on the credit card; well they lost that. I haven't charge a thing on Dick's Card since Nov. Just waiting on them to send me my $150.00 Cerft. and it is bye bye.
I'll call "Customer" Service once I calm down. It isn't the poor teleclerk's fault and I don't want to give him or her a hard time.

You might not want to raise too much cane until you get that credit. Not saying that they wont give it to you, but they might make it difficult for awhile..

Yeah Woody maybe a good idea, sad but true maybe. What gets me is that I am running out of good places to buy outdoor stuff. Anyone go to a Wal-Mart lately. Guess I'll move over to more online shops.

Sorry to hear of the bad experience.I have had great service and for me the rewards program they have has been outstanding. My family and I purchase a lot of merchandise from the Dicks store in Carmel.The clerks are always friendly and helpful. Seems like I am constantly receiving gift certificates in the mail as well as e-mail. I try to stay away from any credit cards if possible.A lot of credit card issuers are making drastic changes in there policy's.

They are working on regulations for these companies at the moment. The CC companies are not liking it.

The new regs wont take effect until 2010. h.h. Yeah but they can change rates anytime. I've enjoyed a low rate with my card for a long time. Had it since the 80's. I just got a notice in mail the rate was jumping to 19.9%. I have the right to "OPT" out but the card will cancel at the end of this year. Any balances that customers have will still have the old rate until paid off.

Plus, they will have to give 45 days notice of a rate change.

So this is what the 700 Billion Bail Out looks like when it trickles down to the common person. Called my other credit card company (USAA) and the only change is that the floor has been set to 6% (because it was tied to the Prime Rate which is now Almost Zero) I don't have an issue with the lower limit been set. Rate for this card is still 10.5% They'll get all my Credit Business.

The credit industry is far too competitive for you to have to put up with crap like that, case in point:
I've held a Capitol One Platinum Mastercard for a number of years, but despite a good payment history they've never raised my limit above the original $5K, and recently jacked my rate from 13% to 16.9% for no apparent reason. Couple this with their lousy customer service, and insistance on sending me so called "convenience checks" in the mail despite me having told them more than once not to send them, and I was beginning to grind my teeth. Then, out of the blue, my bank(Chase) offered me a Platinum Visa with a rate of one third what Capital One charged and an $8500 dollar limit right off the bat. When I sent in the next payment to Capital One I also closed the account and instructed them to accept no further debits against the account, but the following month they sent me another statement, even though I had already transferred the balance to my new card. This time I enclosed a note restating that I had ordered the account closed, reminded them not to accept any further charges, and enclosed my card cut in half instructing them to put it somewhere safe and dark. Hehehe. This month they sent me a check for the outstanding credit, a bit over $10, and hopefully I won't be hearing from them again. Moral of the story? You don't have to take it, if they want your business they'll listen to you. If not, well, there's always another lender who will.
When I got my new card it came with an interest free period of six months, I used that to finance a year of chiropractic care for my poor suffering wife. The doc wanted $3K for a year's treatment, but offered to instead accept the 20 visits my insurance would cover plus $990, less what we had paid in co-pays already($120) if we paid up front. Her treatment for the full year ended up costing me $870, which I paid up front with the (currently) interest free card, and then paid off the following month. Now wifey can see the doc for the next year without having to worry about the cost.
Tell Dick's to shove it unless they give you your $150, once they do shop for a better deal with Bass Pro and Cabelas, I'd bet that they offer you a better deal to get your business. See if they'll transfer your Dick's credit when you talk to them, odds are that they will. With the current credit crunch stores are desparate to get new customers with good track records, take advantage of that.

these tactics of surprise rate increasing, terms changing etc are only going to increase as these companies get more desperate. 2008 was the year of the mortgage and financial market meltdown and many are predicting that 2009 will be the year of the consumer credit industry meltdown. Well called the Dick's Reward Point Customer Service line today; the clerk reaction was "Oh, WOW". She was stumped to as to why I didn't get my Reward. It not a question of if I will get my Reward but when now. Next cycle doesn't happen until Jan 09 and so I'll get it in Feb 09. I really want this to clean up on the post hunting season sales at Dick's.
Well no matter; I been living within my means for many years (go in over my head during my 20 somethings ... after I paid off my last consolidate loan I never wanted debt hanging over my head). Don't have the nicest cars, don't have the fancy house or address, my favorite clothes designer is "Clearance" or "50% Off"; so going cash only doesn't bother me.
It's a bit scary if I was a small business person and my credit dried up or they started jacking around to the terms and rates.
