I wish the Secret Service would have greased him! Whether you like him or not, he is OUR president. Just like I can call my brother an idiot, but you better never!Iraqi reporter throws shoes at Bush, calls him dog BAGHDAD (Reuters) – An Iraqi reporter called visiting U.S. President George W. Bush a "dog" in Arabic on Sunday and threw his shoes at him during a news conference in Baghdad. Iraqi security officers and U.S. secret service agents leapt at the man and dragged him struggling and screaming out of the room where Bush was giving a news conference with Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki. The shoes missed their target about 15 feet away. One sailed over Bush's head as he stood next to Maliki and smacked into the wall behind him. Bush smiled uncomfortably and Maliki looked strained. "It doesn't bother me," Bush said, urging everyone to calm down as a ruckus broke out in the conference room. When asked about the incident shortly after, Bush made light of it. "I didn't feel the least threatened by it," he said. Other Iraqi journalists apologized on behalf of their colleague, a television journalist. Bush arrived in Baghdad earlier Sunday on a farewell visit before he leaves office in January. The U.S.-led invasion in 2003 to topple Saddam Hussein triggered years of sectarian bloodshed and insurgency in Iraq, killing tens of thousands. Like him or not, he still has good reflexes.
That guy's aim was good, especially considering the asymmetrical projectile. He probably would have got me.

It's a safe bet that the reporter's view has changed significantly since the incident...to a view fronted by steel bars. In Arab culture striking, or attempting to strike someone with a shoe is considered a serious insult, when applied to a world leader it probably results in a severely curtailed schedule for quite awhile. ;D

Iraqis can't hit anything, I think we've proved that.

Violent examples like this cry out for Congressional Legislative hearings and tougher laws.
We should demand "Shoe Control". This man should have been wearing "Shoe Lace Locks" We should demand a 7 day waiting period for the purchase of shoes, and demand that shoes be registered.

ole GW did show some good reflexes, might have got me with the first shoe also ;D Here is some more info I read: the best line clearly is: "This is a gift from the Iraqis; this is the farewell kiss, you dog!" The journalist, Muntather al-Zaidi, 28, a correspondent for the Iraqi station al-Baghdadia, shouted in Arabic: "This is a gift from the Iraqis; this is the farewell kiss, you dog!" He then threw a shoe at Mr Bush, who ducked and narrowly avoided it. Zaidi then threw his other shoe, shouting in Arabic: "This is from the widows, the orphans and those who were killed in Iraq!" Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki's security agents jumped on Zaidi and hustled him out of the room. He was detained on unspecified charges. Mr Bush tried to brush off the incident. "All I can report is it is a size 10," Like him or not, he still has good reflexes. That guy's aim was good, especially considering the asymmetrical projectile. He probably would have got me.

I'm thinking the SS was slow on this one; the 2nd shoe should never have been lauched or there should have been several agents between Bush and the shoe thrower by then.

Those agents should be released for being so slow. As for the thrower, that's up to his government.

Can you imagine what would happen if we did that to a visiting leader from another nation?
They are hailing this nut as a hero in Iraq and other ignorant countries.
They should have shot him before the second shoe was in the air.

I have to ask just how in the world a person of this guys obvious and well known hate for the USA could get within shoe throwning range of the POTUS in the first place? Someone dropped the ball on this one.

Well... all I can say is that in throwing a shoe the "reporter" was slightly more civilized than the rest of his simian brethren who tend to throw... biological hazards...

I couldn't believe he was able to throw a second shoe. I watched it again this morning and the first SS agent to get there had to come from all the way across the room. Something doesn't seem right in that situation.

They're reporting he has a broken arm and broken ribs - guess the shoe throwing didn't work out so well so far.
