I can honestly say this was the worst firearms season I have been a part of in 20 years of deer hunting. There were several factors such as wind, wind, wind and more wind, tresspassers, stolen stands, army corp of engineers starting a 10 day project that has taken over 2 months right beside my property, and the factors of just hunting. I enjoyed the hunt and always will. I haven't seen the deer movement like in years past. Maybe muzzo will be better.

I thought it was a strange year and seen all kinds of bucks but all were 99% of them were 1 1/2 year old deer and one 2 1/2 year old. I logged over 120 hrs on the stand this year and never saw do many small bucks in 20 years of hunting.Normally I see at least a couple real nice shooters every year, but not this year..? Oh well in a couple years I should have some nice bucks running around.

Worst one in at least 6 years. High winds the entire first week. No corn crop at all on the farm this year. New hunting pressure on the adjoining property. I think all these things helped make it that way.

Well I didn't get a deer but my Son got his first shots at 2 this year( Buck and a Doe) both misses; but at least he had his chance so I am happy with how the season turned out. I had the same issue; very few deer after opening weekend. Hey we still have M/L season coming up.

Can't say it was my worst one ever..... About average. Family-wise, we had a GREAT opening day- 3 of us took deer in a 10 minute span. I watched my sister connect on her first buck, so all was good with the world. The other 2 deer were just a bonus.

Got 1, missed 1. If I had hit both it would have been 2 which has been the norm for several years. Like I have said before buck sightings - way up (majority 1.5 yr olds); doe sightings - down. I've only seen 1 button so far. I'm not complaining - first time I've ever taken 2 bucks in a season and I'm happy with my archery buck in particular; and I still have time to get the bow back out and chase a gal although I'm seeing much less since opening weekend as well.

I was out on Saturday in Tippecanoe County, and I think the does are starting to herd up.... Had at least a dozen of them come through, just out of range. Too many and too much brush in the way to get a good count, but I don't ever recall seeing that many together this early in the season.

I agree with you danf. I'm seeing the same thing here at my place. A group of six crossed my property Saturday night. I think the weather may be the reason.

The doe I shot Friday was with 5 others.... I thought it was a little early for it too.... but on my property you never know... The wildlife there is not all that smart.. I think there has been to many years of inbreeding...
I have seen more total deer this year than I have in recent years... but I have not seen as many shooter bucks as I normally have...
Although if I se this same little fork horn buck again during late archery I am probably gonna take him.... he is starting to look like a mounter... and I know he will taste better than tag soup...
I swear he is teasing me I see him almost every hunt... he walks by my stand no matter what stand I am in at 30 yards or less at least once a day.... I thought for sure someone would have killed him by now... I think he may be one of those suicidal deer.

I only hunted one morning in Indiana and 3 days in Illinois before taggng out on bucks, so it would be tough for me to judge,
Deer sightings during early Indiana archery season was up for me over last year. Last year our area was hit by EHD and we could sure tell it. It has seemed to rebound. No doubt some of the vacuum left by the EHD has been filled by deer frpm surrounding areas.
I'll probably go over to Illinois for a couple days this late gun season and see If I can way lay one of the almost all white does there and enjoy a little fellowship with Timex, David and John . I hunted the first season with David and John..... nice guys and very helpful.

Plenty of time in the woods during squirrel season allowed me to position myself for success this year. Always saw deer, played the wind and set up accordingly.....

Had a group of 9 out in the field for a short time on saturday morning. Went back that evening and a group of 14 ran right under my brothers stand. Could not find a doe for most of the gun season and then see 20+ on my last day out. It's been that kind of a year.

I haven't been out since I killed that big doe on the 22nd. I REALLY have to remember to get a buck during early archery every season lol. Sure makes things easier!!

I would call it a strange season. I hunt property in Brown Co. and we almost always see at least a few deer. There have been a number of days that nothing was seen by multiple hunters. I don't know what is causing it but I must say for deer sightings it's been a bad year. I am still seeing doe with fawn. I guess the rut is long and drawn out. Maybe things will get better for smoke pole season.

Don't know how many hours we hunted, (Son, hunting Partner, Myself) but we seen a total of 5 deer all firearms, I was lucky enough to be close enough to kill a doe. One place we hunted they are building a by pass around, I think that the raised road acted as a block and the deer changed the way that they used to travel thru that area. Bucks, largest one I have seen this year would probably have been 2.5. Several even smaller and I know since we were mainly hunting near the Fairbanks area and that they did not allow does until the last weekend several of those went down. Hopefully Muzzy will be better.

I saw more deer this year than ever. When the state started allowing more bonus tags to be filled we quit taking does off of the farm. You have to be smart, if your area has a low population of deer to start with, you can't kill your breeders, just because the state says you can, and expect to see alot of deer the next year.

I just looked at my records. I am right around 400 hours in the woods this year and have hunted everyday and about the same hours this time last year and same amount of time. Deer numbers are about the same.
