I am considering it but wonder if everyone else will have the idea? Haven't had any luck on private land so maybe better luck on public land; yea right. I just need to get of the venison welfare list. Friends are beginning to drop off deer roast at my house.

I'll be there the last day after everything has been chased, scared, shot at or killed LOL I'm on the Military side. Be south of the impact area. The guy I usually hunt with will be there all 3 days. He went in today and set up his stands.
I'm back there again for day 1 of the Holiday hunt.

A good friend of mine had his 140 class buck taken from him there today. How can you walk up on a dead or dying deer and pop it in the neck and claim it as yours. Ugly part of those hunts. The ethics of some of the shooters at those hunts, a stinkin free for all.

Eric, Unreal.....I saw 3 bucks today and NO does first time ever for this deal. 2 of the bucks were really small, and due to going in a different way then we did the other day we ended up in the dark in middle of tornado wreckage, not fun....anyway where I set up I could see a long way in the woods about 3/4 mile from any roads. I hear something behind me at 9:30am and I roll my head around tree and it is the biggest buck I've seen on that base in the creek. Being right handed and this deer is going away from me in the creek to my right not a good combo for a shot. Well I finally decided I need to stand up to get a shot and he saw/or heard me and took off running and never stopped for the 300 yards I could see him. Well about 20 minutes later someone comes into the bottom I am in looking for a deer, he had shot it about 1/2 mile from there and said he was tracking it....I had no idea this buck was hit or wounded. If I would have known that I would have tried to put another one it (this is my 2nd experience this year having wounded deer run to me and yes it makes me sick). Well this yahoo wouldn't leave and give up or commit to going where I said the deer went so I took him up to the ridge top and showed him a place where I last saw him and we did find 2 drops of blood and then 2 other hunters appeared and they had watched the deer stand for at least 1/2 hour in one place.....(seemed like the deer got down wind of me and was in between this other guy and me)....well in that place we found like 10 drops of blood and that was it.....that was my morning! Stinks about your friend.

Both those stories are unreal. It's really sad how some individuals act on these hunts. Hopefully that big buck is still walking and you get another chance at him.

Went today and my friend who shot a big buck last year could not find the place we were supposed to go so we parked and hunted until 10:30 at some random place and then went searching for the place he hunted last year. We found it pulled in and there was a pretty decent buck standing in the parking lot. We set up and thirty minutes later I look back and see orange 50 yards behind me so I send him a text and say hey I see you and he says that is not me I guess after I walked in and set up three trucks followed us in. We packed up and left at 2:30 there was a 130 inch 9 pointer in the parking lot. I like crane better.

Did anyone else hear 50+ shots by noon today? Didn't see any deer until we drove out. Had 7 does run in front of my partner's truck...

Pretty wet morning, especially standing in line, in the rain waiting on your line to check in. I waited till light before walking in the woods. Seen one deer in the first 3 minutes of sitting. Came running straight to me then did a u-turn at 25 yards. It all happened so quick I could tell what it was. It really caught me off guard. Then at 9am watched a doe come down the the ridge. I grunted to stop her but she only gave me an opening at her gut. She then spun around and went back to where she came from. So no shots for me today. I saw one other hunter on my way out.
I'll be back there on the 27th for the special holiday hunt.
