I have an opportunity to get a 12 week old male whose father was a jr. trials field champion for free. Thoughts?

Sounds like a good deal to me, still young enough to actually do some training with.

For free if you don't want it you can give it to me. Just a thought.

That is a true all purpose breed. They make a great pet, they point, and they can pull duty as a duck dog if need be.

Brought him home yesterday and he is actually 20 weeks old! He is very smart and has learned several things very quickly. I need to find a good obedience trainer in the area now.

Can we see pictures sometime? You may want to talk to Mbogo about training--he is training his dog and has looked through a few books.

There is a guy that does it in his home in Center grove. Petsmart has classes also. It is not difficult to do but if it is your first time it might help to have help from a good trainer.
PM me if you want more information and I will find his information.

Having been in your shoes not very long ago, if you want him to be a bird dog find a professional trainer and send the dog to him. It is just to difficult to find the time that the dog needs every day and trying to feel your way through it just compounds the problem. They will have birds and the equipment needed and will work with your dog every day. They will accomplish more in a month than you will all summer on your own. I know that it is difficult to part with the money but I think both you and the dog will be much happier.
