This cool weather has got the bucks going crazy.Saturday I had a small 6 point 5 feet away from me while I am in my duck blind.
Then I saw a big in weight buck running down my dike chasing a doe and he falls into my pond.
Yesterday I going past Potato Creek State Park and I see a small buck run right out the front entrance of the park.
Now I am full alert while I am driving but I take my eyes off the road for just seconds to look at a tree stand just across road from the west end of the park and BAM I hit a huge buck.
I hit the brakes and everything I my car goes flying. I see the buck fly off into the ditch and I am sick that I just wrecked my car and a ruined a great buck doing it.
I pull into the first driveway which is about a 100 yards from the tree stand I was looking at and get out to inspect the damage.
The right side of my 2000 Buick is covered in deer s_ _ t but to my surprise no damage except a small dent in the corner of my hood.
I turn around to go find the deer and he his gone. I stopped at the park office to tell them about what happened (a story I am sure they have heard a thousand times) thenI go back to the scene of the accident and I can see where his rack dug into the ground and the bush he plowed down but no blood - no deer.
Now I go home and I am telling my wife this story and we look out into our back yard and there is a small 6 point walking through. We go out onto the front porch to get another look at him and there he goes running out of our woods and into the road and just misses getting hit by a van.
This morning I go back out to my duck blind and just min's. later I look back at the path leading to my house and there is a big in weight 8 point in the path. My wife just happened to be looking out the kitchen window and saw him also. She agrees that he was BIG.I was lucky yesterday I hope I am lucky on SATURDAY.
Now if anybody hunts near Potato Creek I got to tell you the buck I hit with my car was probably the KING BUCK of the park.
I hope he survived the accident.
