I'm thinking I NEED a 458SOCOM upper next myself; that would make a great second build as well!

I want to get another lower and go 6.8 spc, or .458. I might as well get two lowers .

I have been contemplating the 6.8 spc for awhile now as well. Great minds thinking alike again...

5.45x39!!!!!!!!! Surplus ammo is $120 per 1000 rounds from AIM. They also sell the upper for it produced by S&W/Talo. Then .458 SOCOM. That is my plan anyway, just as soon as I finish my .223 pistol build.

Let us know how that pistol build turns out...

I love my STAG 6L, I would suggest you get an #7 upper and enjoy the 6.8 SPC for some highly accurate long range sniping.

I finished my 5.45 x 39 build and I'm very happy with the setup in limited testing. I also have an order in for some Cavalry Arms lowers, one of which is going to be setup as a .45 acp with grease gun mags.
ETA: I'm still waiting on a carbine length buffer tube in order to complete the pistol build.

Is 5.45 brass available? I know the milsurp stuff is cheap and available, but have you bought brass?

Right now reloading 5.45 is a bit of a nightmare, doing so requires forming the cases from another cartridge or buying really expensive pre-formed ones from Buffalo Arms Co. The bullets are not quite .224 caliber either and need to be swaged. I'm hoping that reasonably priced brass will eventually become available given the number of uppers and complete rifles being sold but until then I am stocking up on surplus ammo along with Wolf.

I was thinking about a build in that cal. but then that rumor started floating around about an import ban.

The 5.45 is probably not a good idea unless you are able to stock up with several thousand rounds in the near future. Right now the surplus ammo is available and at current prices you can buy about 3 cases of 5.45 for less than the price of one case of 5.56. The supply will dry up pretty quickly though if there is an import ban so if I were just now considering it, I would probably buy as much ammo as I could afford first then get the upper later.

I know there are guys way ahead of me on buying ammo. I bought a lot of components before I left, so I have a comfortable buffer with 5.56. It stinks that they are digging in to my activities like this without even doing anything.

I bought a Stag Arms stripped lower a few days ago. What config should I build this time?? I finally finished the lower tonight after 4 months! I have the remaining upper parts ( barrel, hand guard, etc) on back order for the M4 setup in .223 that I decided to go with. My 3rd AR build is a pistol build and I have the complete lower ordered already. Hopefully I will wrap up these projects by the end of the year. I need optics and have an additional "non AR" project that I am working on.

I finally found a buffer and tube in stock for my pistol build and it will hopefully arrive by the end of next week. I hope to have the build completed and tested before the end of the month.

Yes she is, but most of the time she is nice enough to let me think I still own them. I'm half afraid that she will want to use the AR pistol as her CCW weapon after she shoots it, lol.
*Thinks to myself* Hmm, maybe I should shift my short term collection to big bores and other guns she doesn't like for now and save the ARs and other guns she does like until after we are married. ;D

Do you have a nice 375H&H in your collection yet?

No, not yet Dave. I've been thinking of ordering a Savage 110 barrel in .375 Ruger or the H&H for awhile but I got sidetracked by the ARs.
