Where is your major pheasant range? Does it butt up against Indiana's western counties (Benton, Newton)/
I have hunted quail in southern Illinois...around Olney. That was a few years back, and we had a great time with a lot of birds to hunt.

Got 1, corns still out in the field to the west. Hens hung tight but cocks where either running or already into the corn at sun up, seen 6 hens the dog flushed within 10 feet of me but the cocks would run for 1000+ yds before they would fly, smart sobs. but the dog went into the field which isn't my ground and seen at least 10 fly. The ground I hunt is on Rte 1 south of Hoopston and north of Danville in a little town of Rossville. My wife and her Bro own about 50 acres. CC send me a line and we'll do some hunting. I also hunt the public ground just north of Danville, called kickapoo and middle fork. I'll be over there in the morning hunting the wifes and then swing by kickapoo to get my state permit..

Hoopston is just west of Ambia, IN where I used to do all my pheasant hunting.

jack, Ambia has some good looking pheasant ground, if you know anyone over there you should try hunting it again, they actually still have fence rows, and the program of set aside along ditches and creeks are also looking good. Decided not to hunt today since my hunting shorts are in the laundry.75 degree days are not good for bird hunting in my book might stay home and mow the yard..

My dog won't hunt unless it's 50 or below. We still know some folks around Ambia. Probably try it this year again.

Hey, just read your post. Had some luck opening day on public land...managed to get two roosters....Got skunked opening Saturday...had an easy shot on a bird flying away...thought it was a hen, but the farther it got, I realized it was a rooster...They never cackle when you want them to. This Saturday (Nov. 15) will be the Sat. from hell on public land (opening of deer. Seems to bring all the crazy meat hunters out. Cary
