OK. I just finished posing this mallard. This is my first real attempt at mounting a duck, so it's been a fun challenge. Let me say after doing this much, I almost think a deer is easier to do! The skin on ducks are soooo thin, and it's a chore to get all the fat off the quills without burning a hole in the skin. Anyway, I'm going for a cupped, "Incoming!" position. I've yet to card the feathers so they aren't all in place. I'm hoping some of the professionals on here can give me a critique and let me know if things need repositioned. For a first attempt I'm gonna give it a "C".... and I already know things to do differently on the next one. Anyway.....I'd love to hear some comments:

Let me knock out a few more of my own Donnie..... then I'm going to get a license so I can do other peoples. The regs and recordkeeping for doing waterfowl taxidermy for $$$ is pretty strict so I don't want to mess up and accidentally get in trouble.

Well..... it's done. Not perfect by any means, but I'm happy that it turned out well enough that I'm going to put it on the wall versus throw it away. Tonight I finished the habitat and got it mounted to the driftwood. I learned SO MUCH doing this first one that I know my next will be better! At least this one is a good benchmark so years from now I can see how far I progress on abilities.
