Good luck and post some pics when you get back...I'm heading to Kansas in a couple of weeks and can hardly wait.

JacK, Good luck in Kansas...looks like we'll be heading out during our Christmas break...bring back some good pictures and some good tales.
A few years back, I did e mail the DNR about the possibility of Indiana doing what Michigan does--stop the pheasant season for two weeks during deer season. This would do two things... 1. prevent both from hunting the same land at the same time and 2. extend the season two weeks.
I did get a response, but it wasn't very favorable to my suggestion.
Also, regarding our pheasant lottery, I would gladly sit out one or two years if I got picked...Tossing out the picked hunters for two years would give more of us a better chance each year.
To those of you who got picked for the pheasant hunt, it's like dyin' and goin' to heaven. I was last picked in '93, but my cousin was picked two years ago. It's a great time. If you're lucky, you'll get a property with both quail and pheasant...then, it can be a whole day of hunting.
Be careful out there

Cary - I usually go deer hunting for one day and then pheasant hunt the rest of the year. I couldn't support your idea of closing down the bird season for 2 weeks but keep thinking. I'm sure there are lots of good ideas out there I haven't heard.

Kansas Jack? Thanks for the invite!... Guess I don't qualify for the handicap zone! :>) On a serious note Birddog, I have never had a problem getting a reply from DNR. It may not be what I want to hear every time but I nearly always get a reply....

A few years ago I call the DNR and asked if there were any spots available that didn't get picked. The woman told me there are 225 total spots available for all the hunts put together and they had over 4000 applications. Thats 17.7% average chance for drawing and I'm sure some dates are even lower. h.h.

If I were to change anything I would agree to a 2 year waiting period for guys that get picked, that sounds fair to me. I will always try and will take any vacation needed to go if I get picked.

Kansas Jack? Thanks for the invite!... Guess I don't qualify for the handicap zone! :>) Actually I'm probably one of the better conditioned guys on this hunt. Besides you and I have never talked about pheasants before. Now if I were going to Michigan for ruffed grouse I might have given you a call....nah!!!! Jack
