They say at least 5000 people sign up for the draw and only 250 are picked out. Congrats to all the lucky winners.

Signed up for this for a number of years and never once got the call to go as did my two brothers, many friends, etc.,but yet I know several guys you go every year.I think that there should be a different way to do this, say throw the names out that have hunted before...got to be a better system!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds like a good plan to me. Don't know how it works, but take the lucky ones out for ? # of years, and let the rest get to play once. Know of a guy locally and he gets drawn at least 4 out of the last 7 years, Lucky maybe?

I guess the question is how long do you take folks out? If we have to wait for the other 5000 to get drawn we might as well not apply. As I posted in the FWCC thread any revisions that you want to make to the current IDNR rules can be addressed soon. Keep in mind they are looking for new ideas for changes but they won't act on the ridiculous.

We'll wait forever because things hardly ever change in this neck of the open range. Jack if you would like to come up I'll take you on a pheasant hunt, on charge but I can't gaurentee we'll find a limit, but somebody will get to shoot one or two. Send me a PM and I'll take you out. The good part is I"ve got a few spot in Jasper, Newton and Benton Co. best in the stae so they say. The wife dose not see me till thanksgiving during bird season.

Jack,
I seriously don't think suggesting a change to the IDNR will do any good..why?? One thing is I've suggested for a number of years now that something be done about getting drawed to hunt pheasants on state ground..BUT...As you know NOTHING has been done so far and I really doubt if anything ever will be done in this area.

Ive applied for the last 13-15 years and never got drawn. In another year or two I wont be psychically able to do it, so no need for me to apply any more. h.h.

Interesting point of view. Nearly everything I take to the NRC gets changed the way I want it. Even the legislature listens correctly from time to time. But if you don't take the time to influence what's happening down at DNR then don't be surprized if nothing happens. H.H. - I'm so old that I'm on my last bird dog. Within 10 years I'll be done and so will she so most of the change I effect will have no influence on me. bomonster - what a generous offer!! I've still got a couple of spots in Benton and Newton but was thinking of expanding into White and Jasper. May give you a shout when I get back from Kansas next month. Jack

Jack, Interesting...I'm glad that YOU have the time to go to the meetings, the office's and buddy up to the IDNR..BUT like a lot of other people I still work and don't have the time to get away to attend their functions which for the most part are held during work hours for the most of us.I have sent the IDNR many and I mean many e-mails,letters,etc. on different things and not once...NOT ONCE ..has there ever been a reply sent back....SO YOU TELL ME JUST HOW IN THE H--- IS SOMEONE SUPPOSED TO GET ANYTHING ACCOMPLISHED? ?

What I am telling you is that the administrative rules are going to be reviewed and possibly revised. Late this month or early next month there will be several announcements asking for requests to changes like the ones folks would like to see on the pheasant draws. I have no clue if any of the ideas being proposed are possible or feasible but YOU have the opportunity. Take it and make the most of it or continue to complain on the internet. I'm sure that will accomplish a lot.

Jack,
As to my complaining on the internet I think I'll complain where it's at least being heard..Now the reason I sent the e-mail "complaining" was hoping that YOU beings you attend these functions in your "free" time could possibly bring it up to someone's attention with in the IDNR about what is being discussed here..I think that's the least you could do for the sportsmen of Indiana!!!!!!

Bidrdog,
I've known Jack for years (mostly through the net) and I will tell you that you would be hard pressed to find anyone in the state of Indiana that takes the sportsman's interest at heart any more than Jack does. Jack also goes one step further. He takes that information to the people that count.
No, a lot of us cant make a meeting in Indy because of work , time and money constraints.. but Jack does and I think I can speak for everyone on here - We appreciate him doing it and reporting back to us.
In the last 5 or 6 years I have seen the power of the internet help shape how we can contact the IDNR and NRC to make our true feelings known. It sounds like the IDNR and NRC knows that too and it putting in place a new method where every citizen can be heard and not just a few that can make the meetings.
For that we should be grateful.
BTW - I do know that there are people in the IDNR that read here daily....

Woody, I also know and have met Jack on several occassions and I feel the same way as you do..However..As I told him I've sent numerous e-mails,letters,etc to the IDNR and have yet to this day have ever got a reply back from them,so I hope you can see how one could easily be frustrated with the IDNR and anyone who tells you to "oh contact the IDNR they'll help"!!!!!!!!
Note: I'm out of here and off to South Dakota pheasant hunting!!!!!!!
