I finally got around to putting up some pics from the Youth Hunting Clinic from Sept. 20th! Again this was a great event and a great opportunity to help encourage and instruct some future hunters! And to encourage their parents to get involved with their young hunters! We had a great turnout, I believe the final count was 55 youth for the event. Paul Anderson with Backwater Outlaws Guide Service is to really be commended for all of his hard work and willingness to do this! We had team member and Predator Director Chad Woods who conducted the predator seminars for the youth, and of course team member and friend Paul Anderson who presented the whole event! I conducted the waterfowl seminar for the youth, and had alot of help from Daniel Rowe (Sponsorship Director), and from friends Josh Ward who conducted the dog demonstrations and ran his dog Cooper for the youth, and friend Brent Horton who helped take photos of the event! Also thanks to new team member Andrew Hedger for helping with taking photos as well! Here you go....
Some of the youth at the event
Waterfowl seminar, we convened in the shelter house...
And immediately headed out to the field for some "hands-on" instruction! We went over the necessary equipment needed, gun safety, how to conduct themselves when hunting, how to scout for birds and gaining permission to hunt and respecting the property we hunt by picking up all of our trash when done and leaving it how we found it!
And then it was time to get "hands-on"! The kids learned from their scouting of where in the field we wanted to hunt and then to choose a location to put our blinds, so they carried the blinds out to the field and set them up. And then they needed to brush in their blinds and we had a competition of which team could do the best job in 3 minutes and the kids just went to town on it!!! They both did awesome! We chose the best blind and the winning team all got a calling kit from Buck Gardner Calls with a call, CD, sticker, and the losing team won too! They received some 6 in 1 whistles!
Then it was time to learn about decoys, decoy placement and setting up for the wind, so the kids got to work carring the decoys out and setting them up, we set up 5 doz. Dakota Decoys (the kids loved this!!!). I had them get back and look at their decoy spread and see if we needed some adjustments and described leaving a hole for the birds to land into so we adjusted the spread.
Now once we were all set up, it was time to hunt!!! ;D ;D We had the youth line up and they all took turns getting into the blinds and learning how to safely hunt and come up out of their blinds and fire their gun... We used primer loads in the gun for them to "bang" for some fun, I ran my goose call to simulate the hunt, and Josh Ward ran his launchers for some "birds" for the youth to shoot at and he ran his dog Cooper on the retrieves. It really was a great time and the kids just had a ball!! The parents were really having some fun too and I could tell some of them were jealous and wanted to get in on it also!! ;D I'm sure we peaked the interest of some new potential waterfowlers!! ;D
