There was a web site that I believe was operated by Indiana University that had excellent satellite photos of the entire state of Indiana. These photos were so detailed I could see my bird feeder in my yard.Does anybody know that web site address or one just as good ?

The one IU was a part of would be the GIS Atlas of Indiana. It is constantly updated with new information. Other than aerial photos for hunting purposes, anyone thinking of buying a new home or new property should consult this site for a litany of other reasons.

I think Google is great as well. I just wish the images were updated more frequently. My property photo is pushing 3 years olds.
I imagine that someday they'll be in real time and you see cars moving..LOL
That's probably not good tho. You would be able to sit in your tree stand with laptop and wireless connection and watch the deer walking around.

The google earth photo I have is so old that they have replanted the beans and those are ready for harvest. That makes it about 2 years old.

I can narrow down the Google Earth image from this area to a certain week- there's a red truck in our driveway, and a red truck at work- two different trucks. We owned one of them, the other was Dad's that we had borrowed when my truck was in the shop. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) Would have been spring of '05. Not certain of the precise week though. ;D

Not certain of the precise week though. ;D Looking at my home pics I would have to say without a doubt it was early April of '05, I was finishing my new house build and had several piles of dirt laying around which are in the image. Those piles were there a very short time before they were spread around.

You are correct about the dates of the aerials. Google's photos are based on the 2005 orthophotography flown in Indiana (which is what is used in the online Indiana GIS atlas). Some counties within the state paid a little more and had the aerials flown to 6 inch resolution while most elected to go with the 1 meter resolution.
If you are interested in getting a copy of the aerials for your county, check with your county commissioners office or the economic development office (sometimes operated out of the chamber of commerce). Sets of the disks were made available to them 2 years ago and they were encouraged to make them available for copying. Keep in mind that they will suck up a huge amount of space on your pc.

Here is the GIS atlas: igs.indiana.edu/arcims/It has been updated with 06 and 07 satellite orthography, still the only free statewide site that you can put the USGS quad contours over an aerial.

earth.google.com the BEST there is IMO! I use it and the only issue is some of the aerial photos are outdated by more than 3 years or more.

Probably the only way to get up to date photos is to pay to have them taken.

Probably the only way to get up to date photos is to pay to have them taken. Heck No! Why should I have to pay for it; I was misled into believing that the photos would be updated. I think the Gov't should bail me out and pay for it.

The GIS Atlas information is updated as soon as they have new metadata to add to it. THere are some newer flights in there, and as stated by someone in an earlier post, some counties paid for the 6 inch resolution and some didn't. 1 meter is still pretty crisp. You can also add in other features to create your own custom hunting map, greenspaces, water features, etc...

This one is good also it shows land owners. Just not all counties have it just a few. Its hard to figure out so take your time. beacon.schneidercorp.com/
